Since this is the first grow-out of the variety, it's hard to guess why there are colour differences. It could be some are leaning to one of the original parent's genectics over the other. Some are going to do that. It will be up to us to decide what Red Hope should look, taste and act like, then we start selecting those plants that meet the standards we set. This is the exciting part! Then, from those saved seeds, we grow out again, roguing out ones that don't meet the guidelines. (But keeping in mind that 'rogues' can be delightful o/p's of their own. Green Zebra started out as a rogue, as with many heirlooms we love today. Then Red Hope will start adapting to your regional requirements, maturity dates will change slightly, disease resistance developing - it's genetics will bring forth any and all bonuses and problems.) My Red Hope's are going through a second seeding as well. The first group died as a result of me not minding them closely enough. I just couldn't do it and didn't notice the fan I had on them burnt out. Damping off took them. This is why it is so great to have so many of us growing at the same time - if one disaster wipes out one tray, the others can grow on.

Ok...I've just transplanted all of my Hope's into there permanant places. They all have purplish stems and all have the very hairy stems. However, I don't know if it is indicative to these plants but, some of the leaves are shaped oddly...started out looking ok but are now...I guess, just misshaped. I haven't culled any of them...I want to see everything! I have taken some pictures and will continue....next payday I'll get the film developed and have them scanned...will take more pictures today (I am on my last roll of film now). I have noticed - think I posted this on the yahoo site - that every one of my seedlings are very strong looking stems....twice the size of all of my others...I am growing carbon, Silvery Fir Tree, Juliette (sp?),Big Boy (my son's tomato - he wanted one that was named for him! LOL) and Mr. Stripey, Uncle Steve's Italian Plum, Debarao Black and a few others....the Ada's Red Hope has out done them all at the same stage....I am just so happy to see the strong thick stems Laomy - I thank you for including me! I am so excited to see what we get and to be a part of this process! Just a quick note.....Ada's has been seperated from all the other tomatoes....the others I plan to seperate as well but on the OTHER side of the house for seed saving...Ada's are all alone...except for some eggplants and a few peppers. I don't want any mistakes or questionable seeds. So far...I have not done anything special....unless you count using fish fertilizer once this season...but ALL my plants got that. Next update....soon. Am I updating too often you think?

I am so excited ;D My Juliette tomatoes have had flowers for a few weeks now and was my first now, I want them ALL flowering RIGHT NOW LOL As far as the misshapen leaves go...they all worked themselves out...they are large leaves but not potato leaf. No longer odd looking leaves...all the Ada's plants look happy and ready to start flowering for me
