Bulgarian Carrot Pepper:
Hot, 70-80 days
Extremely productive 18" tall plants. Fruits ripens from green to yellow-orange, quite hot. Clusters of fruits grow close to the stem, well protected from sunburn. Crunchy flesh, adds color and texture to chutneys and salsas. Excellent when roasted.
Sweet Chocolate Pepper:
Sweet, 58-86 days
A delicious pepper, ripening from green to chocolate colored on the outside and brick-red inside. Thick flesh, great for northern gardeners.
Miniature Red:
Sweet, 90 days
Short and stocky 16" plants covered with 2" fruits that have 2-3 lobes, excellent fresh flavor. Ripen from green to chocolate, or to red, or to yellow depending upon the variety.
Golden Marconi:
Sweet 80 days
A late, Italian pepper with beautiful, big, yellow, 7", tapering
fruit, very sweet, great for frying or fresh. This wonderful heirloom
is delicious and mild
Pequin (aka Bird Pepper):
Hot
Color: Green maturing to bright red or red-orange,
dries to brownish-red
Average Size: 1/2 – 3/4" long, 1/4" diameter
Wild pequins are oval, while domesticated
chiles are a slightly elongated oval.
The pequin is the smallest chile of all, about 1/3 inch
long and wide.
It is hot! The pequin has a complex, smoky, citrus, nutty flavor.
Scoville Heat Units: 30,000 – 40,000
Most Common Uses: Salsa, soups, vinegars, beans, pickled
Used mainly for liquid hot-pepper seasoning.
The green fruits usually are pickled; the red ones
are mostly dried.
