Hi all, just joined and looking forward to meeting lots of new people just as obsessed with saving and growing your own food as I am! ;D This is only my second year growing so I still a newbie to gardening but so far almost everything I've planted this year has come up, which I think is a pretty good start. I do have the added disadvantage of living in the dessert and a lot of plants just can not take the heat, as I found out last year, so I'm always on the look out for heat tollerant plants. Happy Gardening!

Hi Rose, Welcome aboard. Where in the desert do you live? I was in NM for 10 years (Alamogordo - about 20 miles from White Sands National Monument & Holloman AFB). Almost everything will do fine there as long as it gets water, and the more compost you have in the soil, the less water you will need. Also mulch everything to slow the evaporation. Good luck, Jackie
