Let's share the internet and snail mail addresses of our favourite Seed Suppliers... www.uppercanadaseeds.ca The famous Dave Ackerman has finally got online with 300+ heirloom tomatoes. He used to grow other heirloom veggies, but is turning into our TomatoFest of Canada! Prices range from 3.50 to 2.00 per packet, based on quantity ordered. He only accepts cheques still ('checks' to you Americans). www.agrestal.comRaising a variety of time-tested heirlooms, Agrestal is a Canadian company in Southern Ontario. They've got historical information on the variety and it's class. Some unique and valuable heirlooms are offered here, and they love bringing back the 'under dogs' of the heirloom world!

Hi Loamy et al Down Under these are my favorite sources: www.edenseeds.com.au and www.selectorganic.com.au are two arms of the one business. A wide range of heirlooms and OP varieties are offered, and nothing that has been genetically engineered. www.greenpatchseeds.com.au – a much smaller range of heirlooms as they offer only seeds they produce themselves, organically. Very generous seed counts. Phoenix Seeds (no online catalog) in Snug, Tasmania. A large range of seeds, run as a business from home. A mix of heirlooms, OP and hybrid varieties. A fair percentage of the varieties offered and sourced from overseas. Whilst none of these three seed companies take foreign orders I am happy to order what members of this forum might want and we can trade for varieties that you can get me from North American seed companies (the bulk of which don’t take foreign orders either – frustration, frustration!). Also, bankers please note I will be happy to order what you might want and donate them to the seedbank. Keeping our best heirloom varieties alive is our prime objective and transcends our individual interests! Loamy – that is one great web site for Upper Canada Seeds but the link to Agrestal does not work. I had no luck with Google either. Could you post that one again please? I have not heard of Dave Ackerman. Could you give me a run down on him please? A link to a reliable online source of information would be sufficient. Cheers.

www.agrestalseeds.comSorry about missing the 'seeds' part! David Ackerman has been working the same land his parents started out with. He can remember taking the heirloom produce to markets, and truckloads of tomatoes to the Heinz Co. He is in Don Mills, close to Toronto, and yes, many of the maters he's currently growing have been in his family since 1925. When looking through the Seed Savers Exchange, I often see your name, Skip, listed as the seed source. Ackerman's name pops up in the Seeds of Diversity of Canada just as often in their seed lists. He's been interviewed regarding heirloom tomatoes by local and national t.v., magazines and newspapers. Nice guy, about 60 years old, and horribly, horribly shy! He used to sell seed from all kinds of vegetables, but with the trend in heirloom tomatoes gathering strength, he focuses on tomatoes only now. That link to Upper Canada seeds - this is really new for him, it must have been built this summer. All his seeds are organically produced. and he is generous in quantity in each packet.

Thanks for this Loamy.
I have just finished looking at David’s offerings at Agrestal Seeds. I drooled for quite a while and have added quite a few to my ‘want list’. LOL
Digressing, have you had any reports of flavor, pics etc of Ada’s Gift (Ada’s Red Hope). It would be great to hear how folks found it?
Cheers.

Skip, two things.. 1) with all the activity going on in this house, I've gotten behind on my correspondence. Not only have I not gotten the seeds you wanted off yet, I've actually lost the list! Could you let me know which ones I have that you wanted, or do you need me to send you my list again? 2) let me know what you are eyeing up from either Agrestal or Upper Canada Seeds. I have some in my possession that are begging to be planted, and Ackerman gave me my Aunt Ada's discount customer loyalty account - I can get seed packets from him for 1.75 Canadian.

One of my favorite Heirloom Seed Companies is Baker's Creek. www.rareseeds.com I find them to be very generous and reasonably priced. If anyone out of the US needs or wants seeds they offer, I would be happy to help. Carol
